skin resurfacing

Facial wrinkles occur as a result of sun exposure, repetitive contraction of underlying muscles, and intrinsic skin changes that occur with age.

Skin resurfacing is a technique that effectively removes fine wrinkles as well as some of the coarser wrinkles of the face. Resurfacing can also be used to improve skin that is sun damaged, unevenly pigmented and acne scarred. The procedure exfoliates the outer skin layers, thereby allowing the new growth of smoother, healthier, and more youthful appearing skin.

The techniques used for resurfacing include laser, chemical peels (e.g. trichloroacetic acid and phenol peels) and mechanical dermabrasion. Depending on the extent and depth of skin resurfacing required, these procedures can be performed in less than an hour in the office or operating room. In most cases, only one treatment in needed.

Although complications following skin resurfacing procedures are rare, there are inherent risks associated with every procedure that should be discussed with your physician.

During laser resurfacing procedures, Dr. Denton exclusively utilizes the Ultrapulse CO2 Laser - the most advanced system available in Vancouver.
